Recently I spent some time going back through Paul’s first missionary journey outlining his church planting process. He used the same method in every church plant situation! From city to city he preached the Gospel to persons either individually or corporately in public places. Going to a new city with new surroundings cultures and languages did not change his approach. He simply relied on the power in the Gospel of Jesus to bring about the growth of a new church. This dynamic really explains why Paul’s requests for prayer surrounded the giving of the Gospel. We really depend on you to pray these things for our church plant as well. Please take time to jot down the following three words for when you pray for us.
· Doors (Col 4:3-4) “Praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance.” You can’t share the Gospel without some open door for communication between you and a lost person. As we have been on the streets more over the past few weeks we have realized why Paul made this important prayer request. We need open doors of communication in order to plant a church. Please pray for doors.
· Words (Ephesians 6:18-19) “Praying . . . for me that utterance (words) may be given unto me.” Not only do we need open doors of communication we desperately need the words to say. Paul includes two manners in which he would like to speak—1. Boldly (Eph 5:20) and 2. Clearly (Col 4:4). It is encouraging to know that even after planting many churches Paul still prayed for these two essential elements. Please pray that we would boldly and clearly present the Gospel when the Lord opens doors.
· Fruit (II Thessalonians 3:1-2) Paul’s ministry in Thessalonica was met with great fruit. Even in just a few weeks there was group of believers that were eventually organized into a church. This was Paul’s prayer for future proclamation as well. “Pray for us that the Word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified even as it is with you.” Our prayer also is that as we spread the word to many people in Queens throughout this summer we would see much fruit.
Please pray that the Lord would provide: Doors, Words, and Fruit! We are completely dependent on Him to do the work of church planting through the power of the Gospel preached to lost individuals. That is why we are asking you to join our work in praying to God for us.
